Gig Harbor Reflections
by Godfrey J. Ellis – 16×20 Oil 1990
With the success of an oil class I took, I wanted to create more paintings as gifts for family and friends. I asked my father, Maurice Ellis, what he would like. He said that he had always loved Gig Harbor. I painted the scene but quickly saw that painting all the many boats in the harbor would cover up the beautiful reflection of the mountain. I used some “artistic license” to paint only a few boats. My father, who we later learned had attended art school around 1938 in England, loved the gift. Here he is holding it up at his home in North Hollywood.
