by Godfrey J. Ellis – Acrylic 14×18 October The tiny blue flower in the upper left is turning into a tiny butterfly and there are even smaller butterflies on her heart medalion. That matches her personality perfectly – fun, mischievious, and enthusiastic. The semi-abstract background was a worry but she loved it. It had the […]

Sweater/Shirt (McHenry)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – Acrylic 14×18 September Another wonderful young missionary. All of them are upbeat, fearless, and enthusiastic, but this one is particularly so. She is a joy. She is wearing her favorite sweater/shirt. The writing on the badge is some of the smallest writing I’ve ever tried to paint – very difficult. […]
Hanging Basket (Carter)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – Acrylic 14×18 July 2026 This young woman was so sweet; we loved her time in our area. Her face was soft and gentle, which showed her personality perfectly. The challenge was trying to capture that softness. The white dress was a little tricky to paint because there weren’t many details […]
Smocking (Bigler)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – Acrylic 14×18 April 2026 This lovely young sister missionary arrived for a photo shoot with this dress that had smocking on the front. Painting that drove Godfrey crazy! He did his best, but it was difficult. Below is a photo of her holding the painting. Here are three photos of […]
Stripes (Reaveley)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – 14×18 Acrylic April 2026 Yet another of our lovely and hard-working sister missionaries. The reference photo was very good and a good photo goes a long way to producing a good painting. I especially enjoyed painting her beautiful, sparkly green eyes. She likes flowers but agreed that, with the simple […]
The Broach (Avery)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – 8×14 Acrylic March 2026 Another of our lovely sister missionaries working in the Lacey area. She has been here for several months. She wanted blue flowers in the background. Below is the reference photo. Here is a photo of the real Sister Avery holding her portrait, which she much appreciated. […]
Green in Green (Green)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – 14×18 Acrylic July 2025 This young woman brought life and brightness everywhere she went. I changed some of the colors of this one. Below is a photo of her holding the finished portrait. Here are some images as the portrait took shape.
In the Garden (Christensen)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – Acrylic 14×18 Dec 2025 This is another of our lovely missionaries serving in our home town. The photo is one she already had and loved. It was taken before her mission and I added the badge. The necklace was important to her. Finally, I tried to reduce the orange glow […]
Two Butterflies (McLelland)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – 14×18 Acrylic Oct 2025 This is another of our amazing missionaries. It is a joy to supply these lovely young women with a souvenir of their service in Lacey. She wanted a yellow background and didn’t mind when I substituted one of her other dresses for this one. I have […]
Glasses (Gossett)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – 14×18 Acrylic Sep 2025 This another of our lovely and dedicated sister missionaries serving in our town. The large glasses were part of her look, and I liked the patterns of sunshine on her hair. She wanted her portrait in an oval and in the back near the lilac bush. […]
