Starry Tie (Prengel)

by Godfrey J. Ellis – 14×18 Acrylic Aug 2021

Roger Prengel is not only a spiritual giant, he is a smart and creative man. He has given so much to so many over his 88 years of life. It was my privilege to paint his portrait. I hope that I did it justice. I found the wicker chair in his gazebo to be a challenge as well as the stars in his tie flag (the red stripes were too low on the tie to show up.

Roger looks very happy as he holds his portrait out in a woodland setting. Generally, these paintings are painted indoors to be viewed in indoor lighting. That’s probably why it doesn’t look great in this photo. But I love the photo of this much-loved older gentleman.

Here are some shots of early versions of the portrait as it slowly took shape.
