The Name Tag (Parnell)

What attracted me to this portrait of the neighbor girl, Azariah, was the mix of bright primary and complementary colors. She was such a cutie. Her parents were thrilled that I wanted to paint another one after having painted her younger brother (see “Kung-Fu Kid” (Parnell)”).

There were a lot of challenges in this photo. The cement driveway, the dark bushes, the brilliant colors were three of them. I knew this one would not be a quickie.
Below is a picture of Azeriah holding her painting. We had expected the parents to be thrilled; we were not ready for how enthusiastic they were to received it. They were ecstatic.
