The Straw Hat (Peet)

It can be surprising, sometimes, to tell which paintings will come easily and which will be difficult. This one was quite hard because so much of the face was in shadow with spots of light coming through the straw hat. The photo of the painting is not the best, but it gives an idea.

Happily, the husband who commission this as a Christmas gift for his wife loved it. He paid more than we originally agreed and has others he would like me to paint. So, that’s good! Below is a photo of him holding the portrait.
