Buckingham Palace (Ellis)

by Godfrey J. Ellis – 16×20 Acrylic 2020

As the title tells you, this painting was based on a photo taken in front of Buckingham Palace in London, England. We were there in 2007. I always liked the photo and decided to paint it in as a 2020 Christmas present for that beautiful woman next to me. Below is the original photo.

Here we are holding the painting. Merry hates, hates, hates having her photo taken so it is a raw privilege to have an up-to-date photo of her. She made an exception in this case. I think I’ve changed in more in the 10 years since the painting than she has. If anything, she gets more beautiful as she ages. I just get …older!

Here is the painting in various stages of development. The statue was fairly easy, the Palace about medium, but the faces were the most difficult. Merry doesn’t usually like pictures of herself, even though this was years ago, so I wanted something that she would be proud to have her friends and family see.
