Sibling Stroll (Beagley)
by Godfrey J. Ellis – 14×18 Acrylic Feb 2022
Pace (6-years-old) and Brynn (8-years-old) walk hand-in-hand at Percival’s Landing along the waterfront in downtown Olympia, Washington. They spontaneously held hands, which greatly touched the sweet mother. She had been a close friend to our daughter-in-law and has provided great service to Church members and to us, I wanted to give her a painting as a gift. This is the painting that she wanted of her children.
There wasn’t much I needed to do to this reference photo except to straighten it slightly. Since Brynn is tall for her age, the challenge of this piece was to make it look like two children and avoid making it look like a mother and child. I also accented the capital dome because that meant something to the family.
Melissa loved the painting. In fact, when we gave it to her, she was so pleased that she started to cry. We were obviously pleased with her reaction, especially since I have some aspects that I wasn’t pleased with. Here she is holding it, followed by a photo of the kids holding it.
Here are three photos of the painting as it took shape:
