“Mum and Mom” (Roy, Huntamer)

by Godfrey J. Ellis – 16×20 Acrylic Apr 2026

On the left is my British mother (“Mum”) and on the right is Merry’s American mother (“Mom”). They are admiring baby Samuel Godfrey Ellis, their latests great-grandchild. The occasion was the wedding of David and Gina’s wedding reception in December 2002. Painted now in 2026, Sam (the baby) is not just married, but has his own child. So, “Mum and Mom,” had they lived, would be great-great-grandmothers. Mum has her handkerchief tucked into her sleeve as was popular back then and Mom has her arthritic fingers, which I tried to capture. Below is the reference photo.

I tried to brighten up the photo and I deleted the chairs and the shine from the flash in the glass behind them. Below are some photos of the painting as it took shape.
